Extensive research is being carried out investigating the potential medical applications for graphene. Already well under development are diagnostic sensors that can more easily identify the presence of diseases. The same process can also be applied to the detection of explosives and controlled substances.

There is also the potential for graphene to revolutionize the drug and gene delivery industry as well as improving cancer treatments by helping to focus the delivery of treatments to the affected areas and reducing the damage to healthy cells.
